TOUR DESCRIPTIONS

  • Nuclear Reactor Tour | NC State was the first university to have a non-governmental research reactor in the nation. Today we continue to lead teaching, research and service work on the PULSTAR research reactor. This tour will give an overview of what work is done in training the next generation as well as research and service initiatives. Part of the tour is a visit into the bay area. A valid government issued ID is required (e.g. driver’s license or passport). You will meet in the main floor lobby of Burlington Labs. Two tours with a 25 person each maximum capacity. Pre- registration is required. https://www.ne.ncsu.edu/nrp/about/history/

  • Engineering Entrepreneurship Garage | NC State Entrepreneurship supports, promotes and advances a culture of entrepreneurship across the university. We will discuss how our Entrepreneurship Alliance model works, along with student entrepreneurial success stories. Finally, we’ll tour the eGarage, NC State venture creation and prototyping space designed for student entrepreneurs. https://entrepreneurship.ncsu.edu

  • BTEC | The Golden LEAF Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC) is a unique, cross-disciplinary instructional center that provides educational and training opportunities to develop skilled professionals for the biomanufacturing industry and create the best-trained, most industry-focused workforce possible. BTEC is located on Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University (NC State) in Raleigh and operates under the auspices of the university’s College of Engineering. At 82,500 gross square feet, the center is the largest of its kind in the world. The facility features more than $12.5 million of industry-standard equipment and a simulated cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice) pilot plant facility capable of producing biopharmaceutical products. BTEC offers both academic and professional programs involving hands-on learning on topics related to the science, engineering, and operations underlying biomanufacturing. https://www.btec.ncsu.edu

  • ASSIST | The Center for Advanced Self-Powered Systems of Integrated Sensors and Technologies (ASSIST) is a National Science Foundation sponsored Nanosystems Engineering Research Center (NERC). ASSIST develops and employs nanotechnology enabled energy harvesting and storage, ultra-low power electronics, and sensors to create innovative, battery-free, body-powered, and wearable health monitoring systems. ASSIST is enabling a paradigm shift in health informatics by creating wearable nanotechnologies that monitor individual health parameters and environmental exposures. Long-term, scientifically accurate sensing enables patients, doctors, and scientists to make direct correlations between health parameters and environmental exposures.  This information leads to improved chronic disease prediction, management, and treatment.
As part of the ERC program mission, our goal is to create a culture that links scientific discovery to technological innovation through transformational engineered systems research and education. The ASSIST Center tour will include an overview of the Center’s research, demonstrations of engineered systems prototypes, and highlights of our various educational programs from K-12 to graduate studieshttps://assist.ncsu.edu
